Synopsis

“Educating with Emotion – Pedagogical Practices with Emotional Intelligence”, by Summeya Gafur, is a thoughtful and research-informed guide that proposes transforming schools into spaces where feeling and knowledge walk side by side.

Drawing on the four pillars of emotional intelligence — self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and relationship management — the author offers deep reflections, practical tools, and exercises adapted to the Mozambican educational context while maintaining universal relevance.

The book combines strong scientific foundations, inspired by authors such as Antonio Damasio and Daniel Goleman, with real experiences from teachers who, even in contexts of limited resources, find creative ways to teach with humanity. Through stories of resilience, strategies for human-centred communication, and proposals for pedagogical innovation, the reader is invited to rethink education as both an ethical and an emotional commitment.

More than a manual, this book is a call to action: to integrate emotion as an ally of learning, to recognise mistakes as opportunities for growth, and to cultivate relationships that inspire and transform.

Written for educators, trainers, school leaders, and anyone who believes in education as a force for social transformation, Educating with Emotion demonstrates that even with limited resources, meaningful change is possible — when teaching is guided by presence, authenticity, and heart.

About the Author

Summeya Gafur believes that education is an act of transformation — and that true transformation only happens when we teach with emotion.
